Posterior and Quadrant Dentistry

Orientation Week - 21 February 2021
 Module 1 - 1st March to 18th June  2021*
*Dates are subject to change

Treat a quadrant of teeth efficiently, effectively and in a way that is practical, possible and profitable in general practice

As we all know,  the workhorse of general dental practice is treating toothache, caries, cracks and fracture, predominantly in posterior teeth.

You will be amazed at how much your efficiency increases by using the quadrant technique, because all the teeth that need treating in one entire quadrant, are done in the same appointment instead of treating single teeth over several visits.

The Advantages are Numerous...

  • Time-saving use of local anaesthetic in an entire area
  • Reduced setup time
  • Reduced infection control change over
  • Greater comfort for the patient
  • More convenient scheduling for both patient and practice
  • Generates higher hourly rates for the dentist
  • In this course, your educators will show you how to treat a quadrant of teeth efficiently, effectively and in a way that is practical, possible and profitable in general practice.

Hear about what you will learn in this course

Dr Lincoln Harris is the mastermind behind RipeGlobal and the unique teaching methods and curriculum for the Fellowship in Restorative Dentistry.

In this video he explains some details on what you will learn in the Posterior and Quadrant course.

Direct Quadrant Restorative

Synopsis

Prior to learning direct quadrant restorative skills and didactics, you will be tasked to raise your digital photography and documentation skills to the level required for documenting your work in this course. When you are proficient in effective treatment planning, it will improve the communication skills between the dentist, your patients, and your staff.

You begin this module by understanding your starting skill level through a challenge to restore a quadrant in composite on a model in a mannequin's head, to give the most realistic simulation. What follows is a series of intensive skills training presented in the style of our unique education method that is designed to help dentists reduce and overcome stress. Learners will be invited to practice your skills with repetition, ultimately achieving perfect restorations of posterior anatomy. Finishing module 1, you will be able to confidently build a quadrant of composites, manage deep margin cases without fear, and use isolation to achieve consistent results for your patients.

Outcomes

  • You will achieve successful outcomes in deep margin and difficult cases.
  • You will perfect your photographic skills, and master treatment planning, communication and patient management.

Theory, Hands-on and Online Learning

  1. Welcome Presentation. We welcome you to this learning journey. Bring your questions! If you have particular educational needs bring them up now. We will outline the requirements of the course and the structure of each module.
  2. Pre-Theory Exercise. You will restore a quadrant of composite as best you can on the mannequins documenting each step following a checklist of required photos. The documentation of your case will be uploaded. This will mean that you gain significantly more from the following presentations and training exercises, and start learning the process of ideal documentation. We can also identify any issues you may have that need close focus during later training exercises.
  3. Quadrant photography and case presentations. Now that you have had an attempt, we will go through how to take excellent photos, and how to build case presentations for this and later modules.
  4. Composite case presentation. Document a single direct restoration step by step. Produce a case presentation and share for feedback with your mentor.
  5. Treatment planning, communication, and patient management. This presentation will cover the core elements of effective, patient centred treatment planning, communication techniques, and methods for making your life less stressful by managing patient anxiety.
  6. Treatment planning case presentation. Prepare a treatment plan for your patient who requires a quadrant of restorative dentistry. A group brainstorming session will follow as we go over each of the treatment plans that each student has developed.
  7. Hands-on Intensive. A quadrant of composites will be carried out under instruction in realistic time frames to simulate this procedure. You will receive one on one intense coaching and personalised training
  8. Isolation, Preparation and Matrixing. This presentation will cover multiple techniques to gain perfect isolation, preparation techniques and how to select and problem solve matrixing in class 2 restorations
  9. Bioclear technique and injection moulding. This presentation will cover a bulk fill approach to restoring teeth that is fast, fracture avoiding, and focussed on the core qualities of directs.
  10. Posterior composite anatomy - presentation. Learn ideal anatomy which you will use all through your career with both direct, indirect and larger complex cases.
  11. Deep margins and difficult cases - presentation. A direct restoration can be amongst the most difficult things in dentistry when it is large and deep. This presentation will cover techniques to deal with the more difficult variations of this procedure.
  12. Group exercise covering all areas of bonding agents.

Indirect Quadrant Restorative

Synopsis

You will build a single crown prep on a model prior capturing your base level of skill. Indirect Quadrant Restorative training will take you into the space of practicing your skills on traditional crown preps with cores, vertical crown preps, onlay preps and temporaries. This course section explores the different types of materials that are used in indirect dentistry in great detail.

Outcomes

  • You will find your confidence in treatment planning indirect quadrant restorative cases.
  • You will master occlusion in quadrant dentistry, as well as preparation design, temporaries, impressions/scanning, and vertical preparation.

Theory, Hands-on and Online Learning

  1. Pre-Theory Exercise. Single crown prep on a model before theory starts - Document, and share. The quality of your work will get feedback from your mentor so you know where to focus when the training days start.
  2. Treatment planning and occlusion in quadrant dentistry - presentation. The details of how to plan multiple restorations, multiple materials and the ordering of stages.
  3. Intense hands-on. Traditional crown preps with cores, Vertical crown preps, Onlay preps, and Temporaries. Document preps at the end and submit. A minimum of 16 crown preps will be completed in this exercise to develop strong muscle memory and self assessment of techniques.
  4. Preparation design. For indirect restorations, temporisation strategies, and techniques
  5. Vertical preparations. How to manage difficult and badly broken teeth using a vertical, marginless, or feather edge prep.
  6. Literature. Focus on the latest literature covering dental materials. Critical thinking, how to assess studies, and bias review will be covered in a workshop environment.
  7. Occlusion in quadrant dentistry. How to recognise, manage and warn patients who have severe occlusal issues. When cases are acceptable to restore without full arch treatment, and when they require full arch treatment will be carried out.
  8. Treatment plan and case presentation of a patient from your office to the group including decision making informed consent, financial consent, techniques and materials chosen
  9. Final assessment of posterior. Written exam and demonstration of adequate competence in hands-on activities.

Simple and easy.

Consumables for the Posterior Quadrant Module

In most parts of the world, you can access these from your normal channels at lower cost than we can, even with sponsorship. To focus on our vision of making education more available and accessible, it is more efficient for you to acquire your own consumables.
We also want to avoid teaching you on a material that you will never use. We are happy for you to substitute your own brand if you prefer, as it is about technique more than materials.

Frequently Asked Questions

So, you have questions? Let us try to answer those for you...

What is the Fellowship in Restorative Dentistry?

The Fellowship has taken restorative dentistry and broken it down into the four major areas that we approach patients in;  Posterior and Quadrant, Anterior, Veneers and Aesthetics and finally, Full Mouth Rehabilitation.

The courses are designed to build skills in a logical sequence so that you are genuinely competent and confident when you finish.

The fellowship is run over two years and sold as a sequence of four courses that may deliver a greater impact and learning outcome than each course would individually.

The purpose of this course is to allow patients to get safer, better outcomes through dentists being trained to be competent and confident.

Do I need to travel for this course?

The Fellowship is designed to be delivered virtually, 100% travel free and you get to study from the comfort of your own home or clinic!

Can I pay via bank transfer?

Yes. We can send you an invoice with bank details for payment. Send us an email to request an invoice.

Can I pay off the cost of the Fellowship?

Yes, we recently changed our payment plans that can combine tuition and equipment. This is available over the duration of the Fellowship for easy monthly payments.

You can also do a payment plan on equipment or tuition separately - we are quite flexible! Just ask us how you prefer to manage it.

We also have engaged a Medical Finance company for registered Australian dentists only, that is tailored to every client, who can spread this out over several years.   Ask your Pathway Advisor, and we will put you in contact with them.

Can I attend just one or two modules?

We have created the Fellowship as a logical learning sequence, the Fellowship is sold as a four module continuum as our educators believe this to be the most effective way to learn..

Individual courses are now available. Click the purchase button above to go to the cart.

What does the curriculum cover?

Each individual module has its own page detailing the curriculum.

How will the hands-on days work?

You will be connected to your cohort and educator through world-class hardware and software, so that you can communicate directly with your educator using multiple camera angles that allow us to see exactly what you are doing over the shoulder, and for us to demonstrate techniques to you one-on-one.

We have found in our testing that we generally have a better view of what you are doing than we used to with looking over shoulders with a live course.

It’s not just easier.  It is better!  Watch how easy it is for you to interact and collaborate with your educator and other students.

Does RipeGlobal have Accreditation or Affiliations?

Yes. RipeGlobal is an approved PACE Academy of General Dentistry provider for Continuing Education.

RipeGlobal
Nationally Approved PACE Program Provider for FAGD/MAG credit.
Approval does not imply acceptance by any regulatory authority or AGD endorsement.
9/1/2020 to 8/31/2022.
Provider ID# 386578

Is this course affiliated with a University?

RipeGlobal Fellowship courses are NOT accredited with a university, and here’s why:

  • Our courses are boldly unique and delivered in pioneering ways. We would not have the flexibility to create paradigm-changing education if we were affiliated with a university.

  • Our curriculum is skills-focused and underscored by human factors and fail first training methods, as opposed to theory-heavy courses one finds in universities.

  • The cost of becoming affiliated with an institution would double or (likely) triple the cost of the course, without providing any further benefit to our students.

  • Becoming accredited with a university would potentially circumvent our mission which is to provide the highest quality dental education in the world that is affordable and accessible to all dentists so they can become confident and competent, and keep their patients safe.

  • While affiliation might be impressive to your resume, it will not necessarily make you a better dentist, as a high number of universities offer programs with almost no hands-on training.

What is a Fellowship

RipeGlobal has taken inspiration from the historical way medical colleges and universities use the term in the United States, where a fellow is a medical professional or (in our case) dentist who has completed their undergraduate studies, and is currently enrolled in a 1 to 3 year subspecialty training program, such as our Fellowship in Restorative Dentistry.

What is a RipeGlobal Fellow

A fellow is a licensed practicing dentist who is undertaking one of RipeGlobal’s two year specialty courses, such as the Fellowship in Restorative Dentistry. A fellowship is optional education, and is not required in order to practice dentistry, but is necessary when a dentist wants to specialise in a particular area of dentistry, or endeavours to become a master dentist.

What are the RipeGlobal Fellow standards?

Competence of Skill and Knowledge

  • The Fellow Standards requires that students who are enrolled in RipeGlobal fellowship courses achieve a pass grade of 700 points out of 1000 points.

  • Students need to attend 50% of lectures and interactive question and answer questions in-person which allows the student to attend 50% of recorded lectures at a time that suits them during the same week that the lecture was delivered.

  • Students need to attend 100% of the hands-on sessions.

Character

  • To be a RipeGlobal Fellow, students are required to maintain professional behavior during course lectures and hands-on components, and be respectful to fellow students during meetings. RipeGlobal is a safe learning space for people of all genders, cultures, and religions. We feel very passionate about creating a safe place for all people to become the best dentist they can be. We reserve the right to remove students who threaten or intimidate other students.

I'm NOT a highly skilful dentist so will this course be beyond my skills at the moment?

Our Pathway Advisor will spend time with you to make sure you are going to be successful in the Fellowship. We want to see you grow and advance your skills and feel more confident in your work.

Will I receive a Certificate?

Yes.  You will receive a digital CPD Certificate on completion of each module.   To achieve a RipeGlobal fellow status and receive your plaque at graduation you must successfully pass your assessment for Fellowship in Restorative Dentistry.

What about Internet Network Connection?

Students require their own internet connection with adequate quality and speed to perform the equivalent of a high resolution Video call for the duration of any live elements of the course.

Register your interest for individual courses

We have created the Fellowship as a logical learning sequence, and sold as a four module continuum.

If there is any space in any of the modules, we can sell individual places. However those doing the full course will be offered priority.

Please register your interest below and we will keep you updated if an individual module becomes available.

The only course that will not be offered individually is Full Mouth Rehabilitation.
This is only for those who have completed the first 3 modules (Anterior, Posterior and Quadrant, and Veneers and Aesthetics).
